How and where does the commuter benefit work?

The commuting benefit is intended for the journey between the apartment and the workplace. However, the use of the ticket has no restrictions on the number of trips or the time of day.

The benefit works with a virtual Edenred Transport payment card, which can be added to Apple Pay and Google Pay, and connected to the HSL and VR Matkalla mobile applications.

Virtual payment card works for numerous public transport services by adding it to Apple Pay or Google Pay. You can load your local transport travel card with your commuting benefit at e.g. R-kiosks and at Matkahuolto and HSL offices. In addition, at R-kiosks you can buy all VR commuter tickets and long-distance one-time tickets with the commuting benefit.

Pay for individual, series, and season tickets conveniently with your phone and travel by train around Finland! Edenred's Transport cards can be added as a payment method to the VR Matkalla mobile application.

HSL tickets easily on your mobile phone

Edenred's Työmatka card can also be added as a payment method to the HSL application. One-time, series, daily and season tickets can therefore be easily paid for with the commuting benefit.

Taxation of the commuting benefit

The commuting benefit is a fringe benefit offered in the same way as a salary increase. It is a tax-free benefit that the employer can deduct from taxation.

The benefit does not have to be offered to the staff collectively. The employer can also determine how much benefit is offered within the maximum amount set by the Tax Administration.
